roach

/r<utS/
(n) small roll of card placed at the unlit end of a joint.
(v) to tear from something for use as a roach.

The roach is often over-looked, but thisis arguably the most important stage of skinning up. Construction and integration of the roach heavily determines the success of the spliff.

(i) Tear an approximately 1 x 1cm square peice of card. At the back of any kingsize Rizla pack there should be a green piece of card. This is of ideal thickness. London tube tickets are also good. Other sources include: Flyers, other tickets, the rizla packet, anything made of card...

(optional) Some people choose to sear the torn sides of the roach with a lighter. This prevents tar from forming on the roach and going in your mouth. However, it also doesn't stop the tar from going into your lungs. The choice is yours.

(ii) Roll the card into a tube about 0.5 cm wide. There is often a grain to the card, allowing you to get a smoother cylinder if you roll it the right way. Make sure you roll it enough so that it retains it shape.

When rolling, apply more pressure to one end of the roach, forming a slightly conical cylinder.

The angle of this cone determines the shape of the entire spliff, so take care to perfect this skill.
