Habituation is the behaviour of the brain that reduces the significance of frequent events. Common examples include background noise or the sensation of your clothes touching you.

This behaviour often aids players of The Game by reducing the frequency of loss. For example, setting your messenger name as "Lose The Game" will initially cuase you lose everytime you see it. However, assuming frequent usage of the messanger program, it will trigger loss less and less. Other users that see your name will habituate more slowly, although whether this is an effective strategy is debatable, as habituation is proportional to frequency of loss.
